Sat within the Eastern Wing of the existing Typhoo Tea Factory, Digbeth, Birmingham, the building is a cross
educational and entertainment - seeking to foster links between audience, community, students and industry
professionals. The centre features industry standard facilities whilst maintaining an educational programme to
help inspire the next generation of performers. The idea of performance is carried through into the architecture,
exposing elements of structure, rehearsal and mechanisms.

Making use of the existing structure, 3 volumes have been created, carving away at the steel frame and concrete
slab where necessary, a new glulam frame inserted where new geometry has been added. Notably this includes
the fly-tower which mimics the massing of the Western Typhoo building and barrel vaulted in response to the
viaduct.
